Carleton University is a public research university located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada that offers both graduate and undergraduate programs. The school is ranked 481 in Best Global Universities according to its performance across a wide range of publicly accepted indicators of excellence. It is a teaching institution that offers interesting programs and a welcoming learning environment for students.

The university was founded in 1942 and since then it has been dedicated to providing students with excellent learning experiences and outstanding career outcomes.

Formerly a private university, the institution was founded bearing in mind students who were adversely affected by depression. Carleton however, has become a public school and is regarded as one of the best schools in Canada. A budget of about $390 million is allocated to the school together with a research funding of close to $60 million. The school also grants scholarships and bursaries worth about $18 million.

Carleton has students from over one hundred countries of the world and is a total of about 28,000. The campus has renowned tech companies situated around and the university imbibes what they regard as the ‘entrepreneurial spirit in the students, preparing them for real-life situations and opportunities. Its alumni network numbers are above 130,000. Some of these alumni include Peter Grunberg, Nobel Prize in Physics laureate in physics (2007), Gavin McInnes, co-founder of Vice Media, and the developer and architect David Azrieli.

In order to study any of the programs and earn a diploma, certificate, or degree, you must be fully admitted into the university. If you also have any intentions of registering in credit courses without being fully admitted, you are allowed to do so as a Special student. The university requires a total average of 70% of people who applied to be considered for admission. In a case where the demand for admission for applicants exceeds the number of slots available, higher averages are now required.

In addition to admission opportunities, IESP offers academic and social support.


The general acceptance fee for Carleton University Undergraduate is 73%. This means that the acceptance rate of those who applied is 13,934, the rate of those accepted is 11,704 while the rate of applicants enrolled is 20,746.

The total of females who applied is 7,885, the number of females who were accepted numbers up to 6,111, and the acceptance rate is 78%. The number of males who applied is 8,049, males who were accepted were 5,593 in number and the acceptance rate is 69%.

To apply, you would have to pay an application fee of $85. You would also require a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 and a transcript of your high school record. For some programs, you would require a minimum grade point average of 3.4 to be able to apply.

The tuition fee costs $551 for full-time students and $5,561 for students in the province. You would also need to pay a fee of $7,515 for room and board.


It is important to note that admission to Carleton University’s graduate programs are highly competitive and it is also very important to get familiar with the particular requirements of the program you have decided to go for, as each program may vary.
